Posi Temp Valve

Posi Temp Valve

For many years Moen tub/shower valves have been manufactured using one of three valves. These valves are Standard, Posi-Temp and Moentrol. Although the look is similar, the trim is not necessarily interchangeable.

What is the difference between Moentrol and PosiTemp?

The PosiTemp doesn’t have Temperature Memory. The handle goes from one side to the other always going from cold to hot from the off position. The Moentrol Valve has volume control which controls the water flow rate so you get the amount of water you want at the temperature you desire.

What is a PosiTemp pressure balancing control valve?

Moen’s popular Posi-Temp is a pressure-balancing cycling valve which maintains water pressure so effectively consumers will never feel a hot or cold surge in water (commonly referred to as “shower shock”).

When did Moen introduce the Posi Temp valve?

The design goal is to maintain the temperature of the shower for safety and comfort reasons, even if the volume of water is reduced. This was followed by the Posi-Temp cycling valve in 1985, which uses the larger 1222 cartridge.

What is difference between Moen 1222 and 1222B?

There is absolutely NO difference between the Moen 1222 vs 1222B replacement cartridges. They are both the replacement part cartridge for the Posi Temp Moen shower valve. They are made from the same parts, the only difference is their packaging and model number. The “B” in the 1222B model number stands for Bulk.

How do I know what shower valve I have?

Count the Number of Shower Faucet Handles

Often, the type of shower faucet and handle(s) will indicate what kind of shower valve is behind it. Zero handles may imply a shower panel faucet with buttons to control water flow and temperature.

Do you have to replace valve when replacing shower faucet?

The first issue to look for is if there are any leaks in the valve when you turn on the water. If there are drips, that’s a good indication that you should think about replacing the valve. Because, not only are you wasting water, but water that leaks behind the wall can cause rot as well as mold and mildew growth.

What Moen shower valve do I have?

Look closely at the handle buttons that were attached to the shower valve. Typically, “Moen” will be written in the middle of the “Hot” and “Cold” buttons. If you do not see this, the handle buttons have been replaced, or the “Hot/Cold” button is a lever (wall escutcheon).

What is Moen m core?

M-CORE valves and cartridges have pressure-balancing capabilities designed to control temperature fluctuations in the event of water pressure changes in the home. Adjust your water flow. M-CORE valves and cartridges also feature volume control, allowing you to adjust the flow of water.

How do you adjust the temperature on a Moen Posi Temp shower valve?

To adjust the Temperature Limit Stop, with the handle removed, loosen the adjustment hex screw with a 7/64″ hex wrench and slide the screw downward. Tighten the hex screw. Test the hot water temperature (not to exceed 120°F).

What are the different types of shower valves?

In a nutshell, there are three different types of shower valves on the market: pressure balancing shower valve, thermostatic shower valve and diverter shower valve.

What is the difference between Moen 1222 and 1225?

The biggest difference between the Moen 1222 vs 1225 cartridges is how the shower valve handle turns the water on. Shower valves with the Moen 1225 cartridge are turned on by pulling the handle out and then adjusting the temperature by turning the handle to the left or right for hot or cold water.
