Smart Levels

Smart Levels

Smart Level permits you to find level and plumb in two ways. For quick references, use the sensitive bubble vials. For highly precise work, use the digital display on the Sensor Module. It provides accuracy to 1/10 of a degree.

How accurate are digital levels?

Although less accurate than a quality laser level, a quality digital level, which measures slope, has an accuracy of plus or minus 0.1 degrees when measuring horizontal and when a laser beam is attached, the accuracy can be plus or minus 1/4 inch (0.25 inches) per 100 feet; over 4 times more accurate than a spirit

What is digital level?

A digital level is a standard tool used in land surveying projects. Land surveyors use them to perform advanced and automatic height calculations on the job site. Measure the height difference between two points, measure an angle or slope, keep your structure level and plumb, and determine the height of a structure.

What is an electronic level?

An electronic level reads a bar code located on a graduated rod that’s designed to measure elevation or grade. And because it will do the math for you, it has more accuracy. A digital level can be used in many construction applications, because it will automatically measure your delta height.

How do I calibrate my smart tool level?

Place the SmartTool on a flat vertical surface so the so the LCD is at the bottom and away from the vertical surface. After display stops changing (wait 10 seconds to be safe), carefully press and hold the “Calibrate” button until “Cal 1” shows on the display. (See picture inset) Angle reading will appear and flash.

How do you calibrate a level?

How to Calibrate Engineers Levels
Clean the bearing surface, and the underside of the level to remove any dirt or dust. Note the position of the bubble after it has settled, (settling time can be up to 15 seconds) and then turn the level by 180° and place back onto the surface in the same position as before.

How do you calibrate Johnson Smart level?

Press and hold the CAL/REF key for 3-plus seconds, unit will beep once. When the LCD shows -0-, the digital level has entered the calibration mode. 2. Place the digital level on the horizontal reference surface, as shown in figure 5, after 10 seconds, press the CAL/REF again, and the LCD shows -1-.

Do I need a digital level?

Digital levels allow you to field calibrate them so you can always trust their readings. Because of this feature, you can always establish a false zero. Traditional levels are difficult to use on sloped work, but with a false zero established on your digital level, you can replicate the same slope or angle every time.

Are Longer levels more accurate?

Two things to keep in mind: the longer the level, the greater the accuracy — and that when working in cramped quarters, an overlong level is useless. So having a nine-inch torpedo level in your kit is probably a good idea. There are smaller one, too, as short as an inch in length.

How do you know if a level is accurate?

You can perform a similar test to check that your level gives you an accurate plumb reading. Hold the level up against a door frame, take note of the bubble location, then flip it vertically 180 degrees and check for plumb again. If the bubble stays in the same location, your level is accurate.
