Hotfix rhinestones, or hotfix crystals, is the industry phrase for iron-on rhinestones. (Sometimes written as hot fix instead of hotfix.) These stones have a heat-activated adhesive already applied to the back side of the crystal, and are best used with fabric-based projects.
Do hotfix rhinestones stay on?
Once applied, the hotfix rhinestones are permanent and they won’t come off the fabric. This is because the glue melts and bonds itself to the material.
Is hotfix better than glue?
If you have a lot of clothes to add crystals to, you’ll want to opt for the hotfix crystals. This is because using heat to secure the crystals onto the clothing is much quicker than using tweezers and glue! Non-hotfix crystals are somewhat fiddlier, so are best suited for smaller craft projects.
How can you tell if rhinestones are hotfix?
Hotfix rhinestones also have a multi-faceted side and back side that is gray in color, but when you look closely, there’s already dry glue added to the gray flat surface.
Can you use hotfix rhinestones on glass?

Are hotfix rhinestones washable?
When washing any clothing with crystals on it’s advisable to wash at as cool a temperature as possible (although this is the best practice the Swarovski Application Manual says that HOTFIX crystals can be washed safely on a 60°C wash cycle).

Can you use an iron for hotfix crystals?

Swarovski hot fix glue is activated within a temperature range of 120°C to 170°C (250°F to 340°F). Irons usually have temp chart for the type of fabric you are ironing. Personally I use the temperature for my fabric. Preheat the iron.

Can Swarovski crystals be heated?
Swarowski crystals and other similar “rhinestones” are glass and therefore perfectly hardy in the oven. Beware that some “bling” or crystals are actually plastic and these will melt in the oven.
