Swash Plate

Swash Plate

A swashplate is a device that is used to transmit the pilot’s commands from the non-rotating fuselage to the rotating rotor hub and blades. The fact that the rotor blades are rotating at a very high speed makes the swashplate mechanism’s task more challenging.

What is swash plate in hydraulic pump?

Swash plate pumps have a rotating cylinder containing pistons. A spring pushes the pistons against a stationary swash plate, which sits at an angle to the cylinder. The pistons suck in fluid during half a revolution and push fluid out during the other half.

What controls the swash plate?

Swash plate angle controls the output flow of the pump. Swash plate angle is controlled by the force generated against the swash plate by the pumping pistons and by the force of the servo piston. The force of the servo piston is greater than the force of the pumping pistons when both are at the same pressure.

Where is the swash plate?

A helicopter swashplate is a pair of plates, one rotating and one fixed, that are centered on the main rotor shaft. The rotating plate is linked to the rotor head, and the fixed plate is linked to the operator controls.

Which type of motor has a swash plate?

Axial Piston Motors, Variable Displacement, Swash Plate, Size: 85, 112,160, Nominal Pressure: 49 Mpa (5,800 psi), Max. Pressure: 45 MPA (6,500 psi). The M7V / M7X series are variable/fixed displacement motors of swash plate design that can be used in high pressure and high-speed condition.

Why is the tail rotor so important?

A helicopter tail rotor serves two essential functions. It provides a counteracting force to the helicopter’s main rotor; without the sideways thrust produced by the tail rotor, the torque generated by the main rotor would spin the helicopter’s body in the opposite direction.

How do you adjust a swash plate?

Push right on the aileron stick and the swashplate tilts right; Push left on the aileron stick and the swashplate tilts left. Push up on the throttle stick (collective) and the swashplate will rise; pull down on the throttle stick (collective) and the swashplate will lower.

What causes suction of fluid into the gear pump?

Gear pumps use the actions of rotating cogs or gears to transfer fluids. The rotating element develops a liquid seal with the pump casing and creates suction at the pump inlet.

How does a wobble pump work?

Some wobble pumps can handle up to 10,000 PSI or more, making it ideal for high-pressure, low-volume applications. A wobble pump works by using a series of pistons set in a stationary block (usually an odd number of pistons). Each piston features an internal valve, along with an additional valve behind it.
