Pathogenesis. Bacterial vaginitis is an inflammatory response to a specific organism. This is not generally a sexually transmitted disease, and there are several organisms which produce bacterial vaginitis. The most common bacteria are GBS, alpha-hemolytic streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli.
