Large-Format Floor Tile Mortar is a polymer-enriched (“modified”), large-and-heavy-floor-tile mortar (formerly “medium-bed mortar”) and thin-set mortar for floor applications of large-format tile. It is used to install ceramic tile, porcelain tile, quarry tile, Saltillo tile and natural-stone tile.

Mix 5.5 – 6 qts (5.2 – 5.6 L) clean water per 50 lb (22.68 kg) bag of mortar. Mix by hand or use a low 150-200 RPM speed 1/2″ (13 mm) drill to achieve a smooth, paste-like consistency. Let the mixture slake or stand 5-10 minutes; stir again and use. Stir occasionally, but do not add more water.
Is Mapei large format mortar unmodified?
MAPEI’s Uncoupling Membrane Mortar does not contain polymer and is considered non-modified. If you add a liquid latex additive such as MAPEI’s Polymer Additive to a non-modified mortar, it becomes modified.
Do you need to back Butter large format tile?
Back buttering is not required to achieve necessary coverage and support. Coverage and support are achieved by using an appropriate trowel notch size and shape, directional troweling technique, and mortar selection and mixing.
Can I use Mapei Type 1 for shower walls?
Use to install tiles up to 6″ x 6″ (15 x 15 cm) on floors, and up to 12″ x 12″ (30 x 30 cm) on walls. Limitations: Do not install over substrates containing asbestos. Do not use for exterior applications, steam rooms, shower floors or areas subject to water immersion.
