Scabies is extremely itchy and causes gray lines on your skin along with red bumps. Scabies mites are transmitted by skin-to-skin contact with an infected person or by extended contact with the clothing, bedding, or towels of an infected person.

Crusted scabies begins as poorly defined red patches that then develop into thick scaly plaques between the fingers, under the nails, or diffusely over palms and soles. Other common areas include elbows and knees. Mites can also collect in nail beds, causing the nail plates to split.

Can you see scabies with a light?

Is it normal to get new bumps after scabies treatment?

The itch and rash may persist for several weeks after treating scabies. If you are getting new bumps after one month, you should be evaluated again by your doctor.

Scabies won’t go away without treatment and it’s highly contagious. The female scabies mite burrows under the skin and lays eggs. The eggs hatch a few days later and move to the skin surface and begin the cycle again. Many traditional treatments for scabies can cause serious side effects.
