Should You Pull Weeds Before Fertilizing?
Weeds can affect the health of your grass and plants. You will want to get rid of them before adding fertilizers to your yard. While fertilizers are created to boost the nutrients of your grass, these products can be harsh.

What happens if you fertilize weeds?

Standard fertilizer does not kill weeds. It provides nutrients to the soil that can be taken up by any plant growing in your yard, including weeds. However, if you kill weeds before you fertilize your lawn, your grass will grow thicker and healthier, discouraging new weeds from invading.

How long after spraying for weeds can I fertilize?

After spraying the weeds with herbicide, it is good practice to wait at least one week before fertilizing. In fact, your grass needs fertilizing even through the fall and winter. A good rule of thumb is fertilizing at least four times a year, such as every two months during fall, winter and spring.
