Work clothes that can double as street or evening clothes are no more deductible than anything else in your closet. To claim a deduction for buying clothes, the clothes have to be mandatory for your job and unsuitable for everyday wear.

If need be, you can present written proof that your employer requires certain slip-resistant shoes to be worn while working. Keep your receipt! Receipts provide proof that you spent the money on the clothes you are claiming a deduction for. Without one, you won't be able to claim your deduction.
How much can I claim for work-related clothing?
For washing, drying and ironing you do yourself, the ATO considers that a reasonable basis for working out your laundry claim is: $1 per load (this includes washing, drying and ironing) if the load is made up only of work-related clothing, and. 50 cents per load if other laundry items are included.
