Gothic things don't make up the goth subculture, but it can be added to make up the goth / gothic culture, as many goths like both (I do, for example). So those things aren't goth in themselves, but they are somewhat related. Whereas goth music is goth music - that's what makes a goth a goth.

What makes gothic goth?

Goth music is characterized by scything guitar riffs, and fast arpeggiations to create atmosphere. The vocals are often deep and droning, although high-pitched and whispery or screechy vocals are also common. The percussion and beats are either hypnotically slow and solemn or tribal-like with generous use of tom drums.

What are goth called now?

I've seen some crazy things associated with the gothic subculture before, but one term that has recently caught my eye is “Hipster Goth”. “Hipster Goth” is usually used to today's more modern or contemporary goths who have found the current, new, and somewhat more popular 'Goth/Wave Revival' to their liking.
