eBay's business is shrinking at an accelerating rate. Its buyer pool declined by 13% compared to a 9% decline in the prior quarter. Sales volumes on its platform fell even faster, down 20% in the first quarter compared to a 10% drop in each of the last two quarters.

Is eBay on the decline?

eBay's total sales in the first quarter were $2.48 billion. This is down 5.9% from the comparable period of 2021. eBay Inc. reported total gross merchandise volume (GMV) of $19.35 billion in its first fiscal quarter of 2022. This a drop of 20% from a year earlier and the fourth consecutive quarter of declines.

Is eBay still popular 2020?

It's not all doom and gloom for eBay, however. They're still a major global player in eCommerce, with more than half of their annual sales revenue coming from tens of millions of buyers outside the US.
