What Is Difference Between Bspt and Npt?

BSPT (British Standard Pipe Thread) is similar to NPT except there are important differences. Another important difference is that for many BSPT pipe sizes the thread pitch is different than NPT. Thus an NPT male will sometimes fit into a BSPT fitting or vice versa but they will not seal.

Likewise, what is the difference between BSP and Bspt? BSPT (British Standard Pipe Thread) is similar to NPT except for one important difference. BSPP pressure gauges have a longer male thread and use a copper crush washer that is squeezed in between the bottom of the male fitting and the bottom of the female BSPP hole forming a pressure tight seal.
Subsequently, question is, how do you identify BSP and NPT threads?
Parallel threads are the same diameter from end to end, while the diameter of tapered threads gets smaller towards the end of the fitting. UN/UNF and BSPP fittings have parallel threads, and NPT/NPTF and BSPT fittings have tapered threads. If it's too hard to tell by looking, use a caliper.
In most situations that don't involve high pressure, a male NPT fitting can be threaded into a female BSPP fitting, using Teflon tape to seal. Note that because the male NPT fitting is tapered it will thread a little farther into the straight threaded BSPP female fitting.
Clean any grit off the threads and apply a thread sealant. Because NPT fittings seal at the threads instead of at a flare or at the hex, thread sealant is the only type of gasket you can use. We at Pegasus recommend a liquid or paste sealant such as Loctite PST 565 Thread Sealant instead of plumber's tape.
