This medicine is used to treat “iron-poor” blood (anemia) in people with long-term kidney disease. You may need extra iron because of blood loss during kidney dialysis. Your body may also need more iron if you use the drug erythropoietin to help make new red blood cells.

When do you give IV Venofer?

Only administer Venofer when personnel and therapies are immediately available for the treatment of serious hypersensitivity reactions. Most reactions associated with intravenous iron preparations occur within 30 minutes of the completion of the infusion. Venofer may cause clinically significant hypotension.

What conditions require iron infusions?

• anaphylaxis.
• shock.
• severe hypotension (low blood pressure)
• collapse.
• loss of consciousness.
