The planets all revolve around the sun in the same direction and in virtually the same plane. In addition, they all rotate in the same general direction, with the exceptions of Venus and Uranus. These differences are believed to stem from collisions that occurred late in the planets’ formation.

Why do Venus and Uranus spin backwards?

Venus rotates clockwise while Uranus rolls on its side as it orbits the Sun. … Venus is initially rotating counterclockwise like the other planets and it still does. In other words, it spins in the same direction it always has, just upside down, so that looking at it from the other planets makes the spin look backward.

Which planet does not rotate in the same direction?

Our neighboring planet Venus is an oddball in many ways. For starters, it spins in the opposite direction from most other planets, including Earth, so that on Venus the sun rises in the west.
