How Do Peas Respire

How Do Peas Respire

Peas will carry out respiration to release the energy needed for growth and heat energy is produced as it is an exothermic reaction. The peas are also covered in microbes which also respire producing heat. The germinating peas which have been disinfected will produce less heat than Flask A.

Do peas use aerobic respiration?

Aerobic respiration is the process in which glucose and oxygen, through the action of enzymes in mitochondria, produce carbon dioxide, water and lots of energy. In this experiment the use of oxygen in the aerobic respiration of peas can be seen in that, in a sealed container, the level of oxygen reduces with time.

Do dry peas respire?

Non-germinating seeds, however, are dormant and use very little respiration. Some respiration must occur in order for the seed to live. The rate of cellular respiration will be greater in germinating peas than in dry peas, and temperature will have a direct effect on this rate.
