Are Basil and Mint the Same

Mint has a completely different appearance when placed next to a basil plant. Compared to the smooth and sleek look of the sweet basil leaves, the mint leaves look much rougher and textured. They have jagged edges along the leaf edges and also tend to have a fuzzy appearance.

Is basil a form of mint?

It is astounding that so many of our most popular and valuable herbs – including what I would consider the majority of the finest culinary herbs – are in the mint family. They include basil, thyme, lavender, lemon balm, oregano, sweet marjoram, rosemary, sage, savory, summer savory, anise hyssop, and germander.

Does basil leaves taste like mint?

Fresh green basil from the The Chef’s Garden is extremely aromatic, with a taste of pepper, anise and mint, and a melt in your mouth flavor and texture. Fresh basil leaves are deep green and this delicious herb pairs especially well with beans, cauliflower and mint – and your creative dishes.
