Contractions are irregular when there isn’t a stable pattern. An example is a series of three contractions lasting between 30 and 45 seconds and coming 10, seven and then 15 minutes apart.
Can you have irregular contractions and be in labor?
During early labor, you will most likely experience irregular contractions that are mild enough that they do not interfere with your normal activities. These early, unpredictable contractions begin the process of opening (dilating) your cervix so that your baby can be born.
Can real contractions start off irregular?
The start of labour is called the latent phase. This is when your cervix becomes soft and thin as it prepares to open up, or dilate, to allow for your baby to be born. This begins with contractions, which may be irregular and vary in frequency, strength and length.
