The past real conditional describes what you used to do in particular real-life situations. It suggests that your habits have changed and you do not usually do these things today. Examples: If I went to a friend’s house for dinner, I usually took a bottle of wine or some flowers.
How do you use past conditionals?
A conditional sentence has two parts. The first part is the if clause: “If I had studied.” The second part is the result clause: “I would have passed the test.” To form the past unreal conditional, use the past perfect in the if clause. Use had followed by a past participle verb to form the past perfect.
