Desert willow is easy to propagate by cuttings, rooted in moist, well-drained soil. The tree may also be propagated by seeds, sown in a warm greenhouse in the spring and kept in individual pots until late in the following spring. Seedlings may then be planted in their final position in the garden.
Can you grow a desert willow tree from a cutting?
Desert willows are easy to grow from cuttings and usually develop roots within two to three weeks.
Can you plant willow cuttings straight into the ground?
Some of our willow is still planted by hand (a hard wearing glove with a tough piece of leather on the palm is a must!). Willow cuttings should always be tightly packed into the ground. You don’t want the cuttings to move about in the soil as this can damage the rootlets or rub off the skin.
