A hearing test is performed in a sound proof room. You will wear headphones or earplugs connected to a device that sends sounds of different volumes and pitches to one ear at a time. You will be asked to respond by raising your hand or pressing a button each time you hear a sound.
What happens during hearing test?
The hearing test, which is called pure-tone audiometry, involves sitting in a soundproof room, wearing headphones and pressing a button every time you hear a sound. This test is painless and normally lasts around 15 minutes.
What should you not do before a hearing test?
Don’t let earwax get in between you and hearing the world around you. At least 2 days before your appointment for a hearing test, clean your ears of wax. Don’t use cotton swabs or place anything in your ear smaller than your foot. Your ears can be easily damaged if you insert objects in your ear canal.
