We all know Bert as the lovable chimney sweep who helps Mary Poppins bring a world of wonder and magic to the Banks family. Besides his primary occupation of being a chimney sweep, this jack-of-all-trades also moonlights as a pavement chalk artist, a kite seller, and a one-man-band (as shown in title image).

What does Bert represent in Mary Poppins?

Bert is a blue blood. Mary knows this because she was his nanny. She helped raise him and she knows his father was Mr. Dawes.

Why is step in time so long?

The “Step in Time” sequence was only supposed to last two minutes. Early in production, there was a request to cut the lengthy “Step in Time” sequence down to two minutes. Instead, Walt decided to make it even longer.
