The MLA Handbook does not provide guidelines for formatting a thesis or dissertation—or for preparing the parts of such a project, like a preface, dedication, or acknowledgments page—because most schools maintain their own formatting requirements.
Does MLA require a thesis statement?
Your teacher may require you to develop and submit your thesis statements before you start on your MLA papers. Their feedback helps you know if you are on the right track before you spend hours writing your paper. Ask your teacher if you do not understand the assignment or you need direction.
What are the requirements for a MLA Paper?
- Use white 8 ½ x 11” paper.
- Make 1 inch margins on the top, bottom, and sides.
- The first word in every paragraph should be indented one half inch.
- Indent set-off or block quotations one half inch from the left margin.
- Use any type of font that is easy to read, such as Times New Roman.
