What Test Determines Gout

Synovial fluid is a liquid found in your body’s joints. This test looks at whether you have urate crystals in the joint fluid, which could mean you have gout. This is considered the most accurate test for diagnosing gout.

What blood tests detect gout?

If you have symptoms of gout, you need to test a uric acid blood test, which measures how much uric acid you have in your blood. You may also hear this test called a serum uric acid test, serum urate, or UA.

Can you see gout on xray?

Plain film radiography may be used to evaluate gout; however, radiographic imaging findings generally do not appear until after at least 1 year of uncontrolled disease. The classic radiographic finding of gout late in disease is that of punched-out or rat-bite erosions with overhanging edges and sclerotic margins.
