Single-hung windows are often the standard window option used in newer home construction, apartment buildings and office spaces. In a single-hung window the bottom panel, or sash, moves vertically, while the upper sash remains stationary. When opened, the bottom sash obstructs, at least partially, the upper sash.
What holds a single hung window up?
A window’s sash is simply the part of the window that holds the glass and keeps it in place. Generally, the sash can be moved up or down, but some are fixed. For single hung windows, the bottom sash is the only sash that is moveable, for double-hung, the upper and lower sashes can be moved.
What does a single hung window mean?
On single hung windows, the top sash is fixed in place and does not move, but the bottom sash is operable. Sometimes, a single hung also offers a unique option to incorporate a geo shape option into the top sash.
