Edible oysters fall into two different categories: Eastern oysters (Crassostrea Virginica) and Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas). Only for the short first part of an oyster’s life does it move; beginning several days after birth, it stays put in its bed for the rest of its life.
Do oysters move from shell to shell?
Oysters will move once when they are at the larvae state in order to attach themselves to an existing oyster shell. These oysters are called spat. Once they attach themselves, they do not move.
Are oysters immobile?
Oysters: These babies are totally immobile. Oysters are rooted to whatever surface they attach their shell. No fancy swimming for them.
