In most cases, the cause of cystitis is a urinary tract infection (UTI). A UTI happens when bacteria enter the bladder or urethra and begin to multiply. This could also happen with naturally occurring bacteria in your body that become imbalanced. These bacteria lead to an infection and cause inflammation.
What is the difference between UTI and acute cystitis?
Cystitis and urinary tract infections (UTIs) can be the same thing, but they aren’t always. Cystitis is inflammation of the bladder that can be caused by infectious or noninfectious reasons. UTIs are infections of the urinary tract, including everything from the urethra to the bladder to the kidneys.
How do you get rid of cystitis quickly?
- take paracetamol or ibuprofen.
- drink plenty of water.
- hold a hot water bottle on your tummy or between your thighs.
- avoid having sex.
- pee frequently.
- wipe from front to back when you go to the toilet.
- gently wash around your genitals with a skin-sensitive soap.
