A ‘tracking branch’ in Git is a local branch that is connected to a remote branch. When you push and pull on that branch, it automatically pushes and pulls to the remote branch that it is connected with.
Use the terminal to display the . git directory with the command ls -a . The ls command lists the current directory contents and by default will not show hidden files. If you pass it the -a flag, it will display hidden files.
How do I stop git tracking a file?
- Update your . gitignore file – for instance, add a folder you don’t want to track to . gitignore .
- git rm -r –cached . – Remove all tracked files, including wanted and unwanted. Your code will be safe as long as you have saved locally.
- git add . – All files will be added back in, except those in . gitignore .
