Cycads and palms are found in tropical and subtropical parts of North America, South America, Central America and the Caribbean, Asia, Africa and Oceania. They occur in a range of habitats, from closed canopy tropical forests to open grasslands and desert-like scrublands.
Where do Cycads grow best?
With a Cycas revoluta not liking the African extreme heat the best spot to plant one is where they get some shade from the heat of the day. We recommend morning sun and afternoon shade or at least shade from 11am- 2pm in the summer months.
Where do Cycads grow in South Africa?
Planting: It prefers well-drained soil. Dig a hole 60cm square and deep. Mix two thirds of topsoil with one third compost in the bottom of the hole, add a cup of bone meal or superphosphate and mix well. Transplants well in late winter.
