The engagement model is the assessment (replacing P scales 1 to 4) for pupils working below the standard of national curriculum assessments and not engaged in subject-specific study.

Are P scales still used 2021?

Since September 2020, schools have been encouraged to start using the engagement model, rather than P scales – however, if you feel you need more time to prepare, you can continue using P scales 1 to 4 for the 2020/21 academic year. All schools must move to using the engagement model from September 2021.

Are P scales and Pivats the same?

With the P Scales being removed for statutory assessment, the PIVATS team had to re-evaluate the place of the PIVATS P Scale Milestones within the PIVATS assessment tool. It was decided to keep them in as they are still viable for showing progression for in-school assessment.
