How Much Is Rin Worth

S&P Global Platts assessed D6 ethanol Renewable Identification Numbers for 2021 at $1.3075/RIN, down 23 cents day on day. Platts assessed D4 biodiesel RINs at $1.5025/RIN, 20.5 cents lower on the day. Both assessments were the lowest since May 17.

Why are RIN prices so high?

Although regulatory factors and rising RFS targets often raise RIN prices, higher agricultural feedstock costs are currently the primary reason for the high RIN prices, which are correspondingly driving up biofuel spot prices.

Who buys RIN?

Once released, RINs can be traded. Refiners and fuel importers in the US are required to provide the EPA with RINs every year based on the volume of gasoline and diesel that they supply into the US market. They largely get these RINs by buying them from the blenders who release them as blending occurs.
