Since most of a cat's skin is covered by fur, jaundice is most easily seen in the gingivae (gums), the sclerae (white part of the eyes), and the pinnae (ear flaps). Jaundice may be difficult to detect in cats that have pigmented (dark) gums or skin.
How can you tell if your cat has jaundice?
Symptoms of Jaundice in Cats
- Loss of appetite or anorexia.
- Weakness.
- Yellowed skin, eyes or other body areas.
- Diarrhea.
- Vomiting.
- Rounded abdomen.
- Stomach discomfort.
- Poor, rough coat.
Can cats survive jaundice?
Over the years, the prognosis for treating the diseases that cause jaundice have improved markedly, and many jaundiced cats recover and live long, healthy lives.
