Great egrets live in both freshwater and saltwater habitats, and they wade in shallow water to hunt. They stand still and watch for prey to pass by, striking out quickly with their long necks and bill. Great egrets have all white feathers, but they do get dressed up for breeding season.
Are there any white cranes?
The white morph of this uncommon species occurs only in the Gulf of Mexico and along the Southeast coast north to South Carolina. The species also occurs sparingly in southern California (and south along the Pacific Coast of Mexico), but all individuals there are dark morphs.
What does it mean when you see white cranes?
White crane symbolism meant longevity, immortality, and good fortune. In Japan, seeing a crane is still believed to be very auspicious and paper cranes and gifts having crane motifs are often handed out for eternal blessings and good wishes.
