Manufacturing suspension 2012
In February 2012, Novartis Consumer Health announced that they were temporarily, voluntarily suspending operations at the Novartis Consumer Health Lincoln facility that produces Maalox as well as suspending shipments. The shutdown was a result of inspections in 2011.
Can you still get Maalox?
Maalox Total Relief and the traditional Maalox products are both liquid medications available without a prescription (OTC), but are NOT interchangeable. These products are intended to treat different medical conditions.
What is the new name for Maalox?
The anti-diarrhea medication is often confused with traditional Maalox, a gentler anti-acid formula. The FDA says manufacturer Novartis will rename Maalox Total Relief and change its packaging to avoid confusion.
