To dig lugworm individually you have to connect a cast to a blow hole. Start digging from the blow hole towards the cast, gradually deeper but not too deep or you might damage the worm. Stop a few inches before the cast.

Where do you find Lugworms?
Lugworms live in burrows in the sand both on the beach and in the sandy seabed. Their burrows are u-shaped and are formed by the lugworm swallowing sand and then pooing it out, creating wiggly piles of sand along the shoreline.
