Massage the base of the ear from the bottom upwards and wipe away the excess with a compress or cotton wool (do not use a cotton bud). Let your pet shake his/her head and wipe the ear again. Repeat with the other ear. Remember to give your pet a treat and to disinfect the nozzle after each application.
Do bunnies have ear wax?
Just like in people, the ears of rabbits produce cerumen – or ear wax – that usually would be removed by grooming habits and normal drainage of the ear. As the ear of lop-eared rabbits droop, the cerumen begins to build up as it cannot easily be removed.
How do I know if my bunny has ear mites?
Symptoms of ear mites in rabbits include the following:
- Scratching and/or shaking their head or ears.
- Chewing their ears.
- Inflammation and crusting of the external ear canal of one or both ears.
- Crusting on the pinna flaps of one or both ears.
- Evidence of scratching at the skin of the neck, cheeks or base of the ears.
