Facial tics are uncontrollable spasms in the face, such as rapid eye blinking or nose scrunching. They may also be called mimic spasms. Although facial tics are usually involuntary, they may be suppressed temporarily. A number of different disorders can cause facial tics.
Why do I scrunch up my face?
Tension — in your face or other areas of the body such as the neck and shoulders — is a natural occurrence in response to emotional or physical stress. As a human, you're equipped with a “fight or flight system.” Your body responds to severe stress by releasing hormones that activate your sympathetic nervous system.
What causes facial grimacing?
Involuntary facial movements such as facial twitchings and grimacing are frequently accepted as a 'normal' response to stress and anxiety. However, one needs to be vigilant for organic causes such as HFS, a condition which can be effectively treated.
