Can the cecum be removed?
Ileocecal resection is the surgical removal of the cecum along with the most distal portion of the small bowel—specifically, the terminal ileum (TI). This is the most common operation performed for Crohn disease, though other indications also exist (see below).
What is cecal disease?
Overview. Cecal volvulus is a rare form of intestinal obstruction. It occurs when the cecum, which is between the small bowel and colon, detaches from the abdominal wall and twists on itself. This is different from gastric and sigmoid volvulus.
