If you see dimpled skin on both breasts, it's unlikely that the cause is cancer. In general, if you notice this change in texture on one side or changes to the color, you should see your doctor. Changes to color include a reddish or darkened appearance. The dimpled skin may also itch.
Can a breast dimpling be normal?
Dimpling of breast tissue can happen for different reasons, including inflammatory breast cancer. This is an invasive type of breast cancer. Cancer is not the only reason why dimpling occurs in the breast tissue, but if the breast also feels red and warm, it may be a sign of cancer that needs urgent treatment.
Can benign tumors cause dimpling?
There are also benign causes for the skin to become dimpled. Occasionally mistaken for breast cancer, a condition known as fat necrosis may also cause skin irritation or dimpling.
