What Is Impact Moling?

In the construction industry, moling is a trenchless method used to lay pipes. During the moling process, a pneumatically-driven machine known as a mole forces its way through the soil along the desired path of the pipe.

How does impact moling work?

A single person can operate the mole. The impact mole is positioned on a skid or cradle at the desired line and level determined by a sighting level positioned on the mole. Once the mole is in the desired position, the compressor is activated advancing the mole through the hammering action of the reciprocating head.

What is moling water pipe?

Moling is the process of firing pipework from the launch pit to the reception pit. A mole can only be fired in a straight line so you might need more than one launch and reception pits. By using a mole to shoot the new pipework under the ground the amount of surface disruption is minimised.
