River otters
The North American river otter (Lontra canadensis), also known as the northern river otter or common otter, is a semiaquatic mammal endemic to the North American continent found in and along its waterways and coasts. An adult North American river otter can weigh between 5.0 and 14 kg (11.0 and 30.9 lb).
are found throughout most of North America from the Rio Grande to Canada and Alaska, except for in arid deserts and the treeless Arctic. They live in riparian zones, often in the same areas as beavers. Their aquatic habitats can be both marine and fresh water: streams, rivers, lakes, ponds and marshes.
What states do otters live in?
Sea otters actually live most of their lives in the water. Northern sea otters live along the coasts of Oregon, Washington, Alaska and the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands. Southern sea otters live along the California Coast, from Half Moon Bay to Santa Barbara, mostly in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
Are there otters in Australia?
Otters have been highly successful in making their habitats in oceans, lakes, rivers and wetlands around the world. They can be found from North to South America, Africa to Asia, and all across Europe. However, otters have never set up shop in Australia or Antarctica.
