Most commonly found in the southern states of North America, these moths can also be found along the Gulf Coast and in eastern states. Some hawk moths have also been spotted in Australia. Young moths usually grow up on host plants until they develop into a pupa and finally then become an adult.
Are hawk-moths harmful?
While it's true that very colorful butterflies and moths often signal high toxicity, elephant hawk moths are entirely harmless — they don't sting (as the caterpillars of some moths do) and won't poison your dog or neighborhood birds.
Where is moth live?
Moths are found everywhere from the seaside to almost bare mountain tops, in fact wherever there are plants for caterpillars to eat. Each type needs particular conditions for survival and even small changes in their habitat (the type of environment where they normally live) can stop moths from living there.
