Peer-reviewed (or refereed) journals
Peer-reviewed or refereed journals have an editorial board of subject experts who review and evaluate submitted articles before accepting them for publication. A journal may be a scholarly journal but not a peer-reviewed journal.
Are all journals peer-reviewed?
Not every kind of article published in a peer reviewed journal is peer reviewed. Articles like editorials and book reviews do not go through the peer review process, but primary research articles do.
How do I know if a journal article is peer-reviewed?
Use the Journals and Newspaper Listing. Look up the journal title to find the journal's location. Find a database that contains the article full text and follow the link. If the database is provided by JSTOR, the article is peer-reviewed.
