Will Resizing a Ring Damage the Engraving?

Will Resizing a Ring Damage the Engraving?

Engravings on the ring can be damaged during resizing. You may need to have the engravings done again after the resizing process. Very thick or very thin rings can be difficult to size up or size down. In some cases, a ring can need to change more than 4 sizes smaller or larger.

Does resizing a ring ruin the engraving?

The stretching process can distort the engraving so that the words look wider, with a “pulled” look to it. Compressed rings that are sized down may have fainter or equally distorted engravings as well.

Does resizing a ring devalue it?

If you are going up half a size by having the metal stretched, it will thin out and weaken the metal to some degree. In some cases, resizing a ring can also make the ring slightly weaker at the point where the ring is soldered.
