Truncated cone volume (volume of frustum)
volume = (1/3) * π * depth * (r² + r * R + R²) , where R is a radius of the base of a cone, and r of top surface radius.
How do you truncate a cone?
A truncated cone is the result of cutting a cone by a plane parallel to the base and removing the part containing the apex. The height is the line segment that joins the two bases perpendicularly. The radii are the radii of their bases.
How do you find the slant height of a truncated cone?
If you know the radii of the truncated cone to be R1 and R2, and the slant height to be L, we can find the height of the frustum and the volume will follow. Using Pythagoras on the right triangle with hypotenuse on the slant surface and base on the bottom base, we see that the height is √L2−(R2−R1)2.
