Will Roosters Kill Hens?

Will Roosters Kill Hens?

Some male cockerels (roosters) are very territorial and can hurt small children or even someone collecting eggs or walking. Roosters will over-mate hens to the point of killing them. So this is the best reason of all to consider if you want roosters at all.

Do Roosters attack hens?

Poultry farmers are often faced with injured hens and at times even the death of their hens because of an aggressive rooster. At times, the aggressiveness is so severe that it can even result in cannibalism. Poor diet, cramped coops and boredom among roosters seem to be the main causes of aggressive behavior.

Can too many roosters kill hens?

But they can be territorial and protective of what they regard as “their” hens. That's part of their charm, of course, but when they compete with one another too much, they can hurt each other, or even hurt the hens! When you have multiple roosters in your flock, that protective instinct can get out of hand.
