Are Snowflake Eels Reef Safe?

Are Snowflake Eels Reef Safe?

Snowflake morays are reef safe and will not bother corals, though these eels are messy eaters and will require strong filtration and a relatively large protein skimmer for the long-term health of any corals housed in their aquarium. The moray eel will likely consume very small fish such as damselfish.

Do snowflake eels eat corals?

They will not purposefully damage or eat coral, but they are fairly large and very muscular and ambush predators, so a quick jolt out of their hiding spot could dislodge and break anything they are near. They also dine mostly on crustaceans. So, shrimp, crabs, and clams should be considered unsafe to keep with them.

Will snowflake eel eat clownfish?

The clown will make a nice snack for the eel at some point. I had a snowflake eel and a clown fish together for almost a year with no problems.
