Broadcast seeding followed by light disking or harrowing to cover the seed can be used where drilling is not convenient. For wheat or oats, plant 60 to 90 lbs/A if planted into a well prepared seedbed. Adjust the seeding rate upward for broadcast planting.
Can you broadcast oats on pasture?
Oats are more frost tolerant in the fall than sorghums, and can continue growth after some frost. The challenges can sometimes be lack of adequate moisture in August, and having dry enough weather in October for adequate wilting. Oats can be pastured if fence is available.
Can you broadcast winter oats?
Always better to drill. oats and radish can grow broadcast providing the soil is moist and the seed can contact the soil- and then it rains- preferredly twice in a few days. For peas, they are harder to germ when broadcast.
