What is cooling in poker?

A poker cooler refers to a situation in which a strong hand, usually played correctly, loses to an even stronger holding. In a cooler situation you lose, not because you were outplayed, but because of the luck of the draw.

What is the difference between a cooler and a bad beat?

Whereas the winner of a bad beat is someone who didn't play the hand correctly, both the winner and loser of a cooler hand have – in almost all situations – played the hand as it should have been played.
