On higher volume roadways the plows usually operate 24 hours a day when the conditions warrant. There are times, however when hours need to be reduced to give operators the opportunity to rest. On lower volume highways, roadways are usually plowed between 4 a.m. and 10 p.m., when conditions warrant.
When should you start plowing snow?
For others, a general rule of thumb is to plow before it becomes difficult to use the parking lot, driveway, or sidewalk safely. For a construction site parking lot full of trucks this could be as high as 6 inches or a low as a dusting for standard lots.
Do snow plows go all night?
Plowing and maintenance are restricted to the hours between 4 a.m. and 10 p.m. For numerous reasons, including resources and safety to the public and workers, there is no activity between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., except when authorized by the DOT.
