When Was Pruners Invented?

During the late 1890s, secateurs were sold all over Europe and the US. Today secateurs are widely used by gardeners, vintners and fruit farmers. The world's first anvil pruners were developed and produced in 1923 by Walther Schröder in Kiel, Germany.

When were secateurs invented?

Unlike many of his class he escaped the guillotine blade and this may have inspired him to invent the 'cutters' known in French as secateurs in 1815. Prior to Bonville's invention European gardeners had used scissors, pruning knives, bill hooks and shears to cut and trim foliage and small branches.

Who invented loppers?

In 1923 Walther Schroder invented the world's first anvil shear – LÖWE 1. Ever since then, the Original LÖWE principle of drawing cut against a solid base has been continually refined. Today, 90 years later, Original LÖWE is still recognized as the world leader in anvil pruning technology.
